Volusia Pride is holding a DE&I book giveaway at Sidecar Home Market in Downtown DeLand this Saturday, 9/21 (tomorrow), from 10 AM to 4 PM. We will have several hundred books available to give away, many of them being banned books and/or books that contain diverse characters/themes.
In addition to the giveaway, we are expanding our offerings this year to create a miniature festival of sorts. There will be a children’s activity corner with coloring sheets and origami activities, as well as a series of banned book readings for toddlers (11 AM), children (Noon), and teens/young adults (1 PM & 2 PM). These readings will be performed by various local politicians, authors, and community members.
We would like to emphasize the monumental support that we have received from the DeLand Quakers in preparing this event, as well as the following participating drop-off locations (many of whom also donated books directly):
